WBA COP29 Side Event, co-hosted with ISWA

Join us at COP29, where World Biogas Association (WBA) and International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) will be hosting a side event: Unlocking the potential for financing methane mitigation from solid waste for the NDCs and beyond

Venue: Side Event Room 9, Area B, Blue Zone

Confirmed speakers include: Martina Otto, Head of Secretariat, Climate and Clean Air Coalition; Anja Schwetje, Scientific Officer, German Environment Agency / ISWA; Jonathan Banks, Global Director, Clean Air Task Force/ LOW Methane Partnership; Janek Vähk, Zero Pollution Manager, Zero Waste Europe, and Charlotte Morton OBE, Chief Executive, WBA.  The event will be moderated by Dr Pradeep Monga, Senior Advisor and Policy Director, WBA.

This event aligns with COP29’s key agenda item on ’Methane Reduction from Organic Waste’. The session will contribute to the anticipated COP29 Declaration, which will aim to accelerate waste sector commitments aligned with the 1.5°C target, including quantifiable methane reduction targets in national climate policies.

Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) will open the event with a keynote on the importance and urgency of the Global Methane Pledge.

WBA’s Charlotte Morton OBE will discuss the financing gap for methane action on solid waste and the potential solutions to tackle it, and will present WBA and ISWA’s G20 Policy Paper Unlocking the Potential for Scaling up Financing of Methane Mitigation from Solid Waste

WBA Key Position Papers

WBA has published two key position papers on solid waste management through the G20 Policy Hub, the T20.

These briefs highlight the increasing recognition of biogas technology as a critical tool in the transition to a low-carbon economy. The papers address reducing food waste and scaling up methane mitigation, with the goal of shaping global policy and advancing sustainable waste management practices.

Charlotte Morton OBE will be discussing the Unlocking the Potential for Scaling up Financing of Methane Mitigation from Solid Waste policy paper at the WBA and ISWA side event on 13 November, 16:45 – 18:15 (AZT).
